Pipe Material Handler - Full Time Position

Carol Stream, Illinois

Department: Receiving Department



primary purpose of position:

  • Oversees daily handling and management of pipe inventory

  • Supports Production Control through handling and issuing of pipe to work orders

  • Oversees the receipt of pipe inventory, and maintains accurate inventory of the pipe through:

1.    regular cycle counts

2.    inventory location transfers

3.    consolidation of pipe bin inventory in an organized and efficient manner


Duties and responsibilites:

  • Organize and maintain accurate inventory of pipe through regular cycle counts, inventory location transfers, and consolidation of pipe bin inventory in an organized and efficient fashion

  • Verify receipt of pipe against packing lists: size, schedule, heats, and quantities.

  • Load and unload trucks for inbound and outbound shipments of pipe

  • Bring pipes to assigned saws based on schedule assigned by Production Manager

  • Maintain saw area housekeeping by returning unused pipe from saw back to inventory and perform inventory location transfers

  • Issue and manage pipe material variance on jobs

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by practicing general housekeeping 5S

Knowledge and skill

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)

  • Pipe handling experience (preferred)

  • Proficiency with warehouse procedures and policies

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

  • Proficiency with an ERP system

  • Forklift and side-loader experience (required)


What type of equipment typically must be used in this job?

  • Standard office equipment (telephone, copier, fax, personal computer, etc.)

  • Equipment with relatively simple operating procedures (micrometers, hand tools)

  • Equipment with involved operating procedures (test equipment, power tools, mainframe computer, etc.)


Visual Requirements:

  • Reading documents for general understanding (correspondence & memos) – Often

  • Reading documents for analytical purposes and reading for high degree of accuracy (contracts, technical reports, etc.) – Occasionally

  • Viewing video display terminals (VDTs) – Routinely

  • Careful review of non-written, non-VDT materials (for instance; lab specimens) - Occasionally


Required personal Protection:

  • Steel-toe safety footwear - Osha approved for manufacturing (discretionary annual company reimbursement program).

  • Safety glasses with side shields (company provided).

  • Prescription safety glasses must be approved by OSHA standard and have side shields (discretionary annual company reimbursement program)

  • Hearing protection is mandatory – company provided.

  • Specific to the job - Personal Protective Equipment - will be reviewed on the employee’s start date along with Orientation.
